Pets' Corner: Getting Set for Summer
As days lengthen and the sun warms up, it’s time to let our small pets get their fair share of fresh air and sunshine. Guinea pigs and rabbits are happy to be kept outdoors in the garden, but just like us, pets can suffer from an overdose of sunshine. So always keep living quarters in the shade and ensure water bottles are clean, full and not blocked.
Be Belly Careful
Too much fresh lush grass can actually upset rabbits’ or guinea pigs’ delicate tummies, especially with youngsters or more mature animals. Let your pet adjust slowly to new grass and keep feeding a good balanced diet to ensure they get all the Recommended Daily Allowances, particularly the vital fibre which promotes a healthy digestive system.
Young & Old: New Food for All
Supreme has just launched two specialist new Science Selective foods for Mature and Junior Rabbits. These have been made to provide the best balance of nutrition to suit the needs of either youngsters or their more mature friends. They help avoid obesity in older pets and contribute to strong and healthy growth in youngsters. In addition, always provide hay if you can, even when your pet is able to forage for grass.
Flattening Flies
Warm weather and flies are an uncomfortable combination for a pet. Especially if they have a runny tummy or ‘sticky bottom’ which can then attract flies and possibly lead to flystrike. This is a common summer problem that is easily avoided with a good diet, simple pet care and hutch hygiene. Always use an absorbent bedding like Supreme Science Carefresh, combined with a regular hutch clear out using a purpose made cleaner that won’t harm your pet such as Keep it Clean or AntiBAC+.
The Perfect Summer Package
A summer bunny is happiest with a good run, plus plenty of stimulating toys and things to play with. Some shade is vital, as is a clean, fresh hutch to take shelter in. Makes sure any plants that are within reach are not poisonous
